Overhaul Gaming Session Privacy
We're thinking of the following changes to gaming session privacy... feedback requested!
- Private: games don't show ANYWHERE, no notifications, only those with direct link can view/join
- Friends and Group Only: notification to friends and group, only friends and group can view/join. (Mini game listing would still be viewable on group page, unless mod makes all group games hidden).
- Public: default. could still be assigned to a group, but anyone can view and join
Thoughts?

I agree with the comment that "Friends and Group Only" isn't an improvement if it there isn't still a "Group Only". It's important to respect groups that don't want sessions to be visible to just anyone, even if that anyone is a friend of the creator who's outside the group.
How about this, keep Private/Group/Public as the categories, but add a separate "share with friends" checkbox that works alongside the categories? This is copy from Nick b/c I feel the same way exactly

Good concept, but Friends & Groups should be 2 separate options.

I don't think that the change is a good one. I have people in 2 different groups and most are friends, but I don't see the benefit of putting them together. Some times I run with one group and then the other. Combining them takes away from each of my group experiences especially if people in the different groups don't know one another. If it isn't broken, don't change it.

“Friends” and “Group” need to be separate. Just because I’m friends with someone doesn’t mean I want them to be notified about or able to join any game I create.

Putting friends and group together in one category is a problem. I have friends from multiple groups that I need to keep separate from each other.

Please don't make "friends and group only" one selection. One of my groups is women only, but I have plenty of male friends. I can't have my "group only" sessions show up to my friends. Likewise I am in 2 casual groups and 1 serious group, and I don't want my sessions for the serious group to show up to my friends from the casual groups. Basically this would make me delete my friends to avoid this problem.

I know it was abused in the past, but if there was a way to overhaul it so that people could run sherpa/beginner games internal to their group, that would be great. I run a lot of my group through things and sherpa quite a bit, but if I want to make it only for my group, it becomes public. I don't like posting priorities, so I've just stopped posting sherpa games with the sherpa tag.

I like this change, though I agree with other posters that Friends and Group Only is my default. I also haven't tried it for awhile, but it used to be if you tagged "beginner's welcome" or "sherpa requested" it automatically made it a public game. Our clan does a lot of sherpa work internally, we'd love for it to be limited to our clan.

I think all the above revisions would be an improvement. Especially like the adjustments proposed for private games.

Sounds good, though I would allow notifications to those involved.

I think I've only ever used the Public option for creating a new game session, but I think all of this sounds fine

Private games, yes please! But keep the notifications! Why wouldn't they show in My Games? Almost always post to public/group/friends, but would use this for blind raid runs. It would be very helpful.

The situation that justifies a private group is when a specific set of people want to play together and it's preplanned. I would say that is Private and nobody sees it anywhere. It's not meant for somebody to self-join. However, the game creator needs the ability to change to public if they need to fill a spot. Naturally, if private game creator invites you then you need to be notified via email.

Due to the way that groups are polled for activity I feel that it would depend. Does each private game made that fills count towards activity score. does each friend only game made count for activity score? All we want is for our current groups to grow and to have new members brought in. As soon as we start bringing in exclusivity the group starts to die. not because of the exclusivity but because life continually gets in the way. Every group needs new members and if these new changes deter members from joining I do not see it as a worthwhile investment. However If each game does count towards activity score and making your group appear more as a fully engaged group I see it as a worthwhile move.

I like the addition of Group AND friends. Would use that a lot.

Private games should still have notifications / calendar invites. If my clan leader / friend has added me to a game, it would be helpful to know about it.

My thoughts:
I like the over-all idea behind this but I think it needs to have these selections:
Private
Friends
Group
Public
Sherpa Requested
Beginners WelcomeIf Group, Public, Sherpa Requested or Beginners welcome is chosen, display a drop down with the users groups to post to.
If Private or Friends, do not show the drop down. -
